A tragic resurgence of violence in the Bunkprugu Nakpanduri District has left one person dead following a gun battle between the Ngama-Gberuk and Dun-Lar-Gberuk communities this afternoon.

This incident marks a troubling continuation of hostilities rooted in a longstanding chieftaincy dispute that had already claimed lives earlier this year.

Eyewitnesses report that gunfire began around 12noon, leading to a chaotic exchange that resulted in the death of one individual, identified as Duut Kombian, aged 65.

This latest outbreak of violence follows a previous confrontation between the two communities earlier this year, which had resulted in the deaths of two people. The ongoing conflict is rooted in a chieftaincy dispute, exacerbating tensions between the Nandok and Maan clans. The atmosphere in the district remains tense, with both communities largely deserted in the wake of these conflicts.

Following the initial clashes, the North East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) had urged both groups to maintain peace and engage in dialogue to resolve their grievances.

However, despite these appeals and the presence of security personnel and barriers intended to mitigate conflict in the area, the situation has deteriorated.

The Bunkprugu Nakpanduri District Police Command has confirmed the recent fatality of Duut Kombian, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to restore order and prevent further bloodshed.
