A man in his late 30s is currently living on the main Bolgatanga-Road towards the Regional Hospital with boils on his body and very weak.

According to residents, they are suspecting Mpox disease due to the symptoms they are seeing on his body.

“This man has been here for almost a month now and he cannot eat nor talk to anyone. From what I am seeing, though I am not a health expert, I suspect a symptom of the Mpox disease and if it is true then we are at risk”, a resident lamented.

Many passersby have begun to put on nose masks to avoid any threat of contracting the disease and residents are calling on the Ghana Health Service to immediately take action to rescue and evacuate the man for health care.

Ghana continues to record a hike in Mpox infections with 36 more new cases of the disease confirmed, bringing the total to 657.

According to the situational report by the Ghana Health Service, three deaths have so far been recorded with one person on admission as of September 28.

Currently, a 21-day Mpox vaccination campaign against the disease is ongoing at some selected communities in the western region which remains a hot spot.

Some 20,000 doses of the vaccine were deployed to the region on Saturday, October 4.

The intervention is to complement current efforts at containing the spread of the disease in the country.

Mpox spreads mainly through close contact with someone who has the infection.

The general public is encouraged to protect themselves and report early to a health facility when ill.
