Residents of Salaga and its environs have demonstrated against the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) over unreliable power supply.

Electricity power supply to the Salaga enclave has not been the best over the past decade.

Residents have had to battle with intermittent power outages, low or high voltage, face off among other power supply challenges on daily basis.

Several demonstrations were organized in the past by the youth of the area to demand for an improvement of the power situation.

But, the situation seems unchanged.

As a result, Water supply to the Salaga community and its environs by the Ghana Water Company limited has been greatly affected. Businesses have also crumbled.

In their bid to register their displeasure, the youth organized a demonstration on Tuesday June, 25.

Convener of the protest Ibrahim Anyass intimated that they will continue to protest until their demands are met.

“We are fed up with the power outages, yet NEDCO officials are not saying anything. In a day, the lights go off over 20 times.”

“We are unable to charge our phones, our fridges are spoiling as for our televisions is serious. Welders, hairdressers and other users of electricity are going out of business,“ one of the protesters said.

The demonstrators have given NEDCO a one-month ultimatum to resolve the power challenges.

Management of VRA-NEDCo in Salaga have remained silent over the matter.
