Former General Secretary of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Richard Akpokavie has been elected as the new President.

Lawyer Akpokavie polled a total of 44 votes to defeat his closest contender, Michael Aggrey, who polled 19 votes.

The President of the Ghana Hockey Federation had contested the position four years ago but lost to Ben Nunoo-Mensah, who earlier announced he will not seek reelection.

Mr Akpokavie lost that election to Mr Nunoo-Mensah by just seven votes.

His election to the National Olympic Committee (NOC) will forge a new force for Ghana with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) also recently getting a new President.
