Manchester United Manager Ruben Amorim has left his role, the club has stated.

With the club sitting sixth in the Premier League with 31 points, its leadership decided that “it is the right time to make a change”.

“This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish,” Manchester United said in a statement on Monday, January 5.

The club expressed gratitude to the Portuguese “for his contribution to the club and wishes him we’ll for the future”.

Former midfielder Darren Fletcher is expected to take charge of the team on Wednesday, when they play Burnley.

The decision comes a couple of days after rivals Chelsea also offloaded Enzo Maresca as Manager.
