The Omanhene of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area Benso, Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko III, has implored his subordinate chiefs to join the fight against illegal mining, asserting their role is vital to success.
Meanwhile, at a ceremony to swear allegiance on Friday, January 2, 2026, Wassa Damang Chief Nana Kwaku Armah II called for a new year focused on unity and progress.
He directed a special appeal to the youth, urging them to shun destructive behaviors and contribute to community development.
It was a splendid display of culture and tradition, centered on beauty and elegance, as the Chief of Damang, Nana Kwaku Armah II, swore allegiance to the omanhene of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area Benson, Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko III.
Following the ceremony, the Omanhene of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko III, advised the chief to uphold his oath and work to bring needed development to Wassa Damang.
He also urged chiefs to join the fight against illegal mining, asserting that their role is vital to
“Nana Armah, you have now pledged your allegiance to the great stool. As you have declared, so must you do. Chieftaincy is a dignified institution with honor, and I urge you to work diligently for the development of the community you have been chosen to serve.
“Furthermore, I urge you and all chiefs in this traditional area to refrain from any involvement in illegal activities that would tarnish this noble institution.
“My specific request is this: we must not participate in the widely discussed issue of galamsey. Instead, we must actively help the government combat this practice within our communities,” he said.
The Chief of Sekyere Hemang, Nana Kwadu Kyerefo II, has called on chiefs nationwide to be submissive and accountable to their subjects as a prerequisite for development.
He highlighted the revered nature of the chieftaincy institution, asserting that a chief’s role is to serve, not to be a burden.
He expressed concern that a pattern of bad behavior and actions in recent times has brought the institution’s good name into disrepute.
“Nana Kwaku Armah, leader of the Wassa Damang community, bear in mind that while there are many capable people within the community, it is you they have chosen to lead.
They will bring their concerns to you for guidance, and I urge you to exercise wisdom and caution when they do. Always be truthful in your decisions and remain fully accountable to the community you serve.” He stated.
Nana Kwaku Armah II the newly sworn chief of Wassa Darmang called on the people to use the new year to reflect and move in positive direction and desit from commotion and vandalism especially the youths and unite for development.
“My advice to the youth of Wassa Damang is this: as we enter this new year, we must not repeat the mistakes of the past that brought us problems and difficulty.
I am calling on you once more to exercise patience in all you do, especially those riding motorcycles. Please adhere to all safety measures I do not want to lose any member of our community to accidents.
Together, under my leadership, we are working hard to bring the needed development to our community, with our main focus being on improving our inner roads and empowering our youth.”
Jones Nana Ntiful, an opinion leader in Wassa Damang, pledged the community’s full cooperation with Nana Kwaku Armah II in pursuing development.
“Today is a happy day for us, the Wassa Damang community. We will do all we can to support our chief because employment is a major issue here.
We have a mining company and other farms in the area, and so we will stand with him to secure more job opportunities for our youth. We also aim to empower them through education and training, so they can fully benefit from the natural resources in this area.” He said.
