Member of Parliament for Salaga South in the Savannah region, Hajia Zuweira Ibrahima, has presented forty (40) sewing machines to women of the Lively Minds Programme at Kafaba.

The gesture was in fulfilment of a promise made to the women during the graduation ceremony of the beneficiaries.

Addressing a gathering of master dressmakers and apprentices, the MP indicated the donation also forms part of her social intervention policy which was to motivate the 40 women signed on to the Lively Minds Programme.

“This will undoubtedly assist these women operate on their own to become self-sufficient and economically independent”

The MP further encouraged the beneficiaries to put the sewing machines to good use in order to transform their lives and that of people in their communities and also help them generate some income to enable them contribute to the household expenses and their own upkeep.

“My office will continue to lobby government and other individuals and organizations to intervene in such situations which will go a long way to alleviate poverty among our young girls and mothers to support the upkeep of their homes,” she noted.

The Lively Minds Programme is an initiative between parents, teachers and Ghana Education Service (GES) which is aimed at improving the physical, cognitive, social-emotional skills and health of one million kindergarten children from 4,000 rural communities across the country.
