The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has expressed his condolences with the family of the late E.T. Mensah, for the demise of the man whom he succeeded as a legislator in 2017.

“On behalf of the National Democratic Congress, Ningo-Prampram Constituency, I wish to
extend our profound condolences to the family of the late Honourable Enoch Teye
Mensah.

“The late former Member of Parliament for our beloved Constituency who, until his demise,
was a Member of the current Council of State served our Nation in several capacities for
over four decades. We pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for his family left behind,” he said in a statement issued Monday, October 2, 2023.

The former Council of State member and former Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Enock Teye Mensah died Sunday, October 1, 2023, aged 77.

He reportedly died in South Africa after battling ill-health for some time.

E.T. Mensah, born May 17, 1946, was a Minister of Youth and Sports in the Rawlings era and a Member of Parliament for 20 years from January 1997 to January 2017.

He was married with seven children.

During the PNDC era, he served as the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

As a staunch member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), he entered Parliament on January 7, 1997 on the ticket of the NDC representing the people of Ningo-Prampram and held the seat till January 6, 2017.

He also served as Minister of Youth and Sports in former President J.J. Rawlings government for two terms.

In January 2010, after a cabinet reshuffle, President John Evans Atta Mills appointed him Minister of Employment and Social Welfare.

On February 12, 2021, E.T. Mensah was elected as the representative of the Greater Accra Region on the Council of State.
