The Sissala East Municipal Assembly has disbursed GH¢280,000 to 45 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under the Persons with Disabilities Component of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to support education, healthcare and business start-ups.
The support was given out by the Municipal Chief Executive, Adamu Yakubu together with some staff of the assembly during the disbursement ceremony held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, as part of the Assembly’s efforts to promote social inclusion and improve the livelihoods of vulnerable groups in the municipality.
Addressing beneficiaries and stakeholders, the MCE, Adamu Yakubu, described the intervention as a demonstration of President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to reducing poverty, promoting inclusion and ensuring that no one is left behind in the country’s development agenda.
He said the District Assemblies Common Fund remains a vital tool for supporting Persons with Disabilities through programmes that improve access to education, healthcare and sustainable economic opportunities.
According to him, the Assembly earlier this year disbursed GH¢249,062 to 42 beneficiaries during the first quarter to support education, healthcare and income-generating activities. He noted that the latest disbursement increases the Assembly’s investment in improving the welfare of Persons with Disabilities.
Of the 45 beneficiaries receiving financial assistance this time, 31 are women while 14 are men. The beneficiaries were selected following recommendations by the Municipal Disability Fund Management Committee after assessing applications.
Beyond the cash support, the Assembly also distributed 60 goats to 12 beneficiaries, with each person receiving five goats to establish or expand livestock farming as a sustainable source of income. The beneficiaries comprise eight men and four women.
In addition, six farmers with disabilities received 48 bags of fertilizer and two boxes of weedicides, each containing 12 litres, to improve agricultural productivity and strengthen food security within the municipality.
The MCE further disclosed that the Assembly has enrolled 7,250 households onto the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme to extend social protection to vulnerable families across the municipality.
He urged beneficiaries to use the financial and material support responsibly, stressing that the interventions are intended to promote self-reliance rather than provide temporary relief.
He encouraged students to remain committed to their education, advised recipients of business capital and livestock to manage their enterprises prudently, and called on farmers to use the agricultural inputs to increase productivity and household incomes.
The Municipal Chief Executive commended the Municipal Disability Fund Management Committee for ensuring transparency and fairness in the selection process, while reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of Persons with Disabilities.
He also expressed appreciation to the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Assembly Members and other stakeholders for supporting the implementation of the programme.
Adamu Yakubu urged all stakeholders to continue working together to build an inclusive Sissala East Municipality where every citizen, regardless of physical ability, has the opportunity to live a productive and dignified life.
