Two persons who sustained gunshot injuries are battling for their lives at the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital at Somanya after falling victims for a robbery attack at the Gaso Fuel Station Monday, October 23, 2023.

The station was attacked by four armed men including a woman at the fuel station at Ogome, a suburb of Somanya which is about 200 metres away from the SP Gas station where a robbery happened two weeks ago.

Eyewitnesses says the robbers made away with an undisclosed amount of cash from their eight minute operation from the pump attendants, and later made away with GHC28,000.00 from a mobile money vendor who operates close to the fuel station on their way out.

In their attempt to ward off residents from the scene, the armed men fired several gunshots and injured two people, and fired other rounds to injure a pump attendant when fleeing the fuel station.

Meanwhile, one of the victims who was rushed to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital is said to be in critical condition while the other has been stabilised by medical professionals at the facility.

The other victim who also sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Somanya Poly Clinic has since been treated and discharged.

This latest incident is the second in the area in less than two weeks leaving the residents in fear over safety for their lives. They have questioned the ability of the police to provide enough  security in the area following the increasing rate of robberies in the area.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo, Eric Tetteh who confirmed the incident to Accra-based Citi FM disclosed that the Municipal Security Council will conduct an emergency meeting with the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Twumasi Ankra on the possible way forward.
