In the small town of Bole, residents are living in fear as a wave of mysterious murders continues to claim lives. While the deaths have left families traumatized, movement at night has been restricted.

According to the 2021 population and Housing Census, the Bole District’s population was 115,800. Between 2022 and July 2024, 22 persons mysteriously died with some of their body parts missing.

65-year-old father of seven, Yahaya Jajah, was the last victim to die in such mysterious circumstances. He was found dead at the St Kizito Primary B with his head chopped off. His alleged killing brought back traumatic memories of murders some few months ago.

I have come to the home of one of the victims of the mysterious deaths in Bole. His family members are still traumatized by his killing.

“He was the breadwinner of the family who made sure his seven children were well taken care off. His death is a blow to us as a family,” a relative said.

They want justice

“Several people have been killed and no one has been arrested. We are worried and call for justice,” another said.

As the police struggle to find leads, the community is coming together to support each other.

The Bole District Assembly has installed streetlights across the principal streets of Bole to avert any further deaths.

Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Yussif Sulemana called for more support for a local watchdog committee instituted by the paramount chief of the Bole traditional area.

“I want to commend the young men who have taken it upon themselves to stay awake to support the efforts of the security to safeguard our security. I have committed to extend a monthly support to them and I call on the assembly and other stakeholders to do same,” he said.

A youth group in Bole known as Concerned Citizens of Bole, staged a protest to demand an end to the bizarre and unexplained killings in the community.

Bolewura Kutugefeso the first, Paramount Chief of the Bole Traditional Area, though worried, believes, the perpetrators will soon be arrested.

The deployment of a team of experts to Bole and its environs by the Police administration to support the Regional Police Command to unravel reported cases of unnatural deaths in the town over the last six months, has been hailed as contributing to reducing the number of deaths.

With the Police presence, there is emerging hope among residents that just one day, the perpetrators will be found and prosecuted.
