Ghana’s Black Starlets began the WAFU Zone U-17 qualifiers on a flying note on Wednesday after whitewashing their Ivorian counterparts 5-1.

It was the opening game of the championship, taking place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Ghana and Ivory Coast opened the three-team Group A at the newly-built stadium with a win for either side all but guaranteeing a place in the semi-final.

Joseph Narbi finished off an outstanding display in the 27th minute to open the score for Laryea Kingston’s side.

The Benab Ajax Sports Academy teenager doubled the lead for the Starlets in the 42nd minute.

Ghana returned from the break to score three more goals.

Still Believe FC’s Godfred Sarpong scored three minutes after the break.

Though the Ivorians pulled one back a couple of minutes later, Harve Gbafa restored Ghana’s three-goal lead.

Mark Kagawa Mensah completed the rout ahead of the final group game against Benin.

Ghana will next face Benin on Tuesday, May 22.
