The Presiding Member for Asokwa Municipality who double as assembly member for Ahinsan Estate, Nana Yaw Wiredu, escaped injury on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, after his vehicle was attacked by stray cattle while he was driving.
Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9fm in Kumasi with Sir John on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Nana Yaw Wiredu said the cattle damaged his vehicle during the incident.
He said the same cattle had earlier attacked a young woman by the roadside who is currently receiving medical treatment.
Nana Yaw Wiredu told Sir John that the Assembly has discussed the issue of stray animals in its General Assembly meetings, but lacks personnel to remove the cattle from the streets.
Areas experiencing the challenge include the Asokwa-Oforikrom bypass, Asokwa Interchange, Ahinsan Estate and areas close to Mayanka and Kaase.
He hinted that the Assembly is ready to employ persons willing to support efforts to clear stray cattle from the streets.
The aged_old phenomenon appears to have worsened due, perhaps, to high demand for livestock.
Apart from the public nuisance and danger , situation is a major worry as the animals leave their droppings along the streets , with little or no action by authorities.
Nana Yaw Wiredu, said , “it is about time we strengthened the law. We’ll have to ensure all livestock keepers have pens. Those without pens would not be allowed to keep livestock “, he said.
