Persons seeking the services of the National Identification Authority by way of acquisition of the Ghana card, replacement of card or update of personal details have been left disappointed and frustrated following an industrial action by workers of the Authority.

According to our Savannah Region Correspondent, Christopher Amoako, the NIA offices he visited remain locked with no activity going on.

Applicants who were at the offices for services were left frustrated and disappointed.

The strike follows the government’s failure to address poor working conditions and negotiate better service conditions for the NIA staff.

The union, in a statement on Sunday, June 9 stated that it had deferred its initial strike notice in March 2024, following the intervention of the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations.

However, the government’s lack of progress in the negotiation process has prompted the union to take industrial action.

From Kumasi, Ibrahim Abubakar reported that district and regional offices of the National Identification Authority have been deserted as the strike by staff takes effect.

At the Asokwa and Adum, the usual congestion is missing as offices have been placed under lock.
