A 69-year-old man, Francis Quarm—popularly known as Gabo—has been tragically murdered in his room by a young man believed to be in his early twenties at Kansaworado, a suburb of the Sekondi-Takoradi in Western Region.
According Paulina Quarm who is a daughter of the deceased, her father was asleep when the suspect forcibly entered his room and attacked him without any provocation.
Sharing this heart-wrenching account in an interview on Connect FM’s Omanbapa show with Paa Kwesi Simpson on July 16, Paulina couldn’t still fathom what might have occurred.

“My father is a landlord. We heard one of the tenants shouting for help early in the morning. The suspect had broken into his room and started attacking him with a machete. Although many people rushed to the scene, they couldn’t get inside because the suspect was armed and looked very aggressive.
Eventually, one brave young man gathered the courage, entered and overpowered him—but by then, my father had already been killed.” She recounted.
George Cobbinah, the Assembly Member for the area, confirmed the incident and added that the suspect, a resident of the community, had recently been exhibiting disturbing behaviour believed to be linked to drug abuse.
“Just the day before, he attacked his own mother, leaving her with serious injuries. She’s currently receiving treatment at the hospital. He also stormed a church with a machete and threatened the congregation. We tried capturing him after those incidents, but he disappeared—until this morning, when we received the devastating news of Mr. Quarm’s death,” Mr Cobbinah recounted.
According to Cobbinah, the suspect was heard screaming that he needed more blood.
“Around midnight, people heard him shouting about wanting more blood. The victim, being elderly, could not defend himself,” he indicated.
“The police have since arrested the suspect, and the victim’s body has been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta mortuary.” He added.
