Ghana’s leading swimmer Abeku Gyekye Jackson has won a Bronze medal in the final of the 100m Butterfly event in the ongoing African Games.

The controversial event was staged on Tuesday after it was cancelled on Monday, March 11.

The event was cancelled after officials detected a false start by one of the athletes at the Aquatic Centre of the Borteyman Sports Complex.

Ghana’s representative, who won Silver in the 50m butterfly final, appeared to have come 2nd in Monday’s race.

However, he had to cut short any hopes of winning that medal after the race was cancelled by officials.

When it was retaken barely 24 hours later, Egypt’s Abdalla Nasr clocked a time of 53.29s to win Gold.

South Africa’s Jarden Eaton came second in a time of 53.45s while Jackson made it to the poolside in 53.80s to win Bronze.

It is the youngster’s second medal at the Games, increasing Ghana’s tally on the medals’ table to five.
