The Western Regional Police Command has arrested Anthony Acquah for allegedly stabbing his 17-year-old brother, Francis Mensah, to death at Mampong, a community in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region.
According to a statement released by the police the incident occurred on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at about 6:00 p.m. following a misunderstanding between the two brothers.
In the heat of the altercation, Acquah is said to have pulled a knife and fatally stabbed Mensah.
After the incident, the suspect reportedly fled the scene and went into hiding.
However, on August 20, 2025, police acting on intelligence arrested him at his hideout at Kojokrom near Sekondi.
Superintendent Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Regional Police Command, confirmed the arrest in a press release dated August 21, 2023.
She stated that the suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations. Police say the body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy as investigations continue.
According to reports, the tragic incident occurred after a misunderstanding over a broken padlock.
Narrating the events leading to the murder, the chief linguist of the community, Nana Kwamena Famanyame, explained that the two siblings lived with their mother and stepfather.
According to him, the deceased had gone in search of his phone, which he believed was locked inside his elder brother’s room.
“The phone of the younger one, who is now deceased, was in the room of his elder brother. After many hours of searching for his brother to take his phone without seeing him, he decided to break the padlock to access the room. When the elder sibling returned and realized his junior brother had broken into his room, he became angry, leading to a confrontation. He then pulled a knife and killed his brother instantly,” Nana Famanyame told Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show.
The Kwesimintsim District Police Command, with support from the Anaji Police, visited the scene and conveyed the body of the deceased to the mortuary.
