Flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has called on the people of the Upper East Region not to allow themselves to be bought by any politician to vote for them since they are worth more than the peanuts that would be given them.
John Mahama says the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration and its appointees have amassed wealth for themselves and their family capable of taking care of them and their next generations.
He has therefore charged members of the NDC and the general public not to allow themselves to be bought by the government.
Mahama was speaking to residents of Talensi in the Upper East region whilst wrapping up his four-day campaign tour when he made the remarks.
Like they did in Assin North during the by-election, John Mahama says constituents took the monies but voted against the government, something he wants residents of Talensi to replicate should the government make any attempts to buy them off.
“Eight years they’ve been in government, they’ve made a lot of money. They and their children and children’s children will not suffer for the next generations. And they have a lot of money so they are going to take some of that money, a little of it and they are going to give you 500, 200, 1,000, thinking that they can buy your conscience to vote for them. Your value is more than GHC500.00. “The same thing they did in Assin North. You are walking on the street and anybody coming, 200 cedis. And what did the people of Assin North do, they took the money and that day when they went to vote, they voted for the truth,” he advised.
Meanwhile, John Mahama says certain infrastructural projects that were being undertaken for the people of Talensi were halted by the NPP administration after taking over.
He lamented the government’s neglect of the area assuring of his commitment to undertake all the projects they started 8 years ago and have since been abandoned.
“Here in Talensi when the NDC was in government, we were extending electricity to all the communities. We didn’t finish the project before we left. As soon as we left they abandoned the project. They even stole the poles and came to take them away.
“When NDC was in government, we started the road from Bolga. We were coming to do the Talensi road and take it all the way to the Zuarungu road. Today, that project has come to a standstill,” he indicated.
