29-year-old Sophia Amankwa has been nabbed by the Tema Regional Police Command for the unlawful possession of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs at Dogo Junction near Ada in the Greater Accra region.
A Friday June 27, 2025 statement from the police indicate that Miss Amankwa was arrested on June 25 after a the police intercepted a tipper truck with registration number GW 9768-12.
Police say the driver of the truck took to his heels, leaving behind the truck.
After conducting a search in the truck, the police say a substantial quantity of suspected narcotics were uncovered: 3,900 compressed and cello-taped slabs packed in 52 sacks. The substances are believed to be Indian hemp.
Preliminary investigations have established that Sophia Amankwa is the owner of the suspected narcotics.
She is currently in police custody and assisting with further investigations.
Police have, meanwhile, launched a search for the driver of the vehicle and other possible accomplices.
