The New Force, a pro political group that has emerged with the persons behind it unknown, has reacted with dismay, the repatriation of its Spokesperson, Shalimar Abbiusi (Shallie).

The group, has in a statement issued Thursday, December 21, 2023, condemned the inhumane treatment it says their spokesperson was subjected to by state security agencies.

According to the group, the treatment meted out to Shallie has caused a strain on her family following her repatriation to her home country.

“The New Force, express our profound regret for the reported instances of; abuse faced by Shallie, unwarranted detention for up to seven (7) days, the unwarranted
search, and ransacking of her home.

“The movement acknowledges the strain on her family and sympathizes with their aggrieved feelings over reported gross misconduct and malpractice by trusted officials. Shallie has since returned to the Kingdom of Belgium,” the statement indicated.

The movement, further in its statement noted the act was a breach of international human rights laws, something The New Force stands for.

“The New Force stands for the empowerment of people. Therefore, it deeply saddens us,
hearing the unsettling circumstances and experiences she had. Shallie’s impeccable conduct is a reminder to the international community about the importance of fully embracing human rights laws, democracy, justice, the presumption of innocence and the burden of proof even in difficult circumstances. An honourable life is not lived without friction,” portions of the statement added.

Shallie was repatriated to her home country, Belgium, after her permit was revoked by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

The Ghana Immigration Service had indicated that her documents showed she was studying at the Ghana Christian University College which their investigation proved otherwise.

After being discharged by the Kaneshie District Court Tuesday, December 19, 2023, state prosecutors intended to drop the charge of obtaining a student permit under false declaration.

With a sigh of relief upon the decision by the state prosecutors, her fear of being imprisoned or fined was renewed with a sense of freedom.

However, she was rearrested barely 20 minutes after the judgement.

Travel arrangements had been made by the state after the GIS gave her 24 hours within which to leave the country. At 10 PM on Tuesday, her Brussels flight took off from the Kotoka International Airport.

Francis Xavier Sosu, Shalimar’s lawyer, was who got discontented with the development said his client’s fundamental human right had been abused and he was going to fight to get her justice.

Mr. Sosu says he will still pursue the legal processes initiated at the Human Rights Court.
