The Wa Central Member of Parliament, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has asked the police to up their game in bringing perpetrators of the recent killings in Wa and Bole to book.

The lawmaker, has also called for an investigation to be constituted into the killings to allay the fears of his constituents who are now dreading.

During proceedings in Parliament Tuesday, June 18, 2024, when the matter of the killings was laid at the plenary, the lawmaker stated that the situation has become worrying, asking the police not to sleep on their job.

“Mr. Speaker, I think that the police must sit up and I also think that some further and quality investigations has to happen in this matter. We are worried about the situation, we are worried that lives are lost, and not much is done to investigate and bring out the murderers and perpetrators of this crime,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Parliament has summoned the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, to appear before it and answer questions in relation to the suspected serial killings in the two constituencies.

The Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, directed that the Minister appears on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, to brief the House, following concerns raised by the lawmakers from the aforementioned polities.

About 16 people have died through similar means between 2023 and 2024, a situation which has escalated fears amongst residents in the affected communities.

On his part, the Member of Parliament for Bole, Yussif Sulemana, expressed the need for the urgent summon of the Minister to appear before the House.

“We just arrived from the constituencies this morning and I can report to you that the people of Bole are living in fear. Between May and June, three people lost their lives through serial killing. And this morning, we’ve also heard that two people have been murdered in a very similar manner in Wa,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, who supported the call for the Minister’s summon asked that some time be given for him to prepare in order to brief the House adequately.

“But as soon as possible, the Minister should be programmed but he also needs time to prepare and come and brief the House properly,” he noted.

“Next week Wednesday. So, that is my ruling,” Andrew Amoako Asiamah, the 2nd Deputy Speaker ruled.
