The Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Thursday, December 11 received her fellow Vice President from Colombia, Francia Elena Marquez Mina who is on a three-day state visit.

A guard of honour was held in honour of her at the Jubilee House upon her arrival at the Presidency.

The two leaders then proceeded to engage in bilateral talks in the areas of education, trade, investments, agriculture, tourism and culture where they expressed a shared vision for mutual progress and growth.

Colombia and Ghana have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1988 with Colombia opening an embassy in Ghana in 2013.

Over the years, the two countries have strengthened their ties.

The visit by the Colombian vice President Francia Elena Marquez Mina is to further deepen the relations and to strengthen their partnerships across multiple sectors.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang was pleased to receive her fellow Vice President and stressed the need for them to develop a forward-looking partnership that goes beyond bilateral relations and global challenges.

‘’Today’s engagement offers an opportunity to reaffirm our commitments to progress, reflect on the trajectory of our partnership and explore new avenues for cooperation’’.

She also urged that they leverage their shared Afro descendant heritage for cultural and economic initiatives.

“There are avenues of cooperation in seven sectors, including education, agriculture, cultural exchange, trade, tourism, multilateral engagements and others.

“Ghana looks forward to strengthening collaboration with Colombia on climate resilience, biodiversity conservation and equitable environment, governance.

We recognize that the global climate challenge demands coordinated efforts guided by fairness, sense of responsibility and a collective resolve to safeguard our planet,” Prof Opoku-Agyemang said.

Francia Elena Marquez Mina was happy for the warm reception and promised to collaborate with Ghana.

The two countries later signed a memorandum of understanding.
