Former Deputy Minister of Local Government in the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration, Augustin Collins Ntim, has described as regrettable the infusion of tribal and religious allegiance in modern day politics; especially within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Ntim, who is the Middle belt Campaign Committee Chairman of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, says such acts are alien to the New Patriotic Party.

He was addressing some party supporters during a door-to-door campaign to get Dr Bawumia reelected as the NPP 2028 presidential candidate when he made the comments.

“There are people within the party moving round with the message that Christians did not vote for Dr Bawumia during the 2024 elections because he is a Muslim; this is very alien in the NPP.

“We do not entertain such a divisive pronouncement because every NPP member knows that the party does not segregate. In any case, post 2024 election reports never indicated that Dr. Bawumia lost the election because of his religious belief or tribe, so where from this?” he queried.

Campaign for the next flag bearer of the opposition NPP has intensified in the Ashanti region and other parts of the country.

The party has scheduled next year, January 31, 2026, for its presidential primary.
