The Kintampo Divisional Police Command in the Bono East region has arrested two persons for allegedly smuggling and transporting over 150 bags of cocoa beans to neighbouring Burkina Faso.

The two, Paul Milungu, 26, and Mohammed Bagaya, 22, who are both Burkinabes, according to the police, were arrested on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Portor, a suburb of Kintampo upon a tip off.

According to the police, the two suspects loaded the cocoa beans together with several packs of black polythene bags and used clothes in a DAF Cargo truck with registration number 3166D306, from Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra and were heading to neighbouring Burkina Faso.

A Ghanaian citizen saw them after they stopped at Portor, a suburb of Kintampo, to take some rest, and informed the police through a telephone call leading to their arrest.

The Kintampo Divisional Police Commander, ACP Samuel Kofi Gampson, speaking off camera said the two are currently in custody assisting in investigations.

He added that they are yet to trace owners of the truck and the cocoa beans for questioning.

ACP Gampson said COCOBOAD has taken custody of the cocoa beans while investigations continue.
