The Ghana Police Service has disclosed that the two Ghanaian women kidnapped and tortured in a viral video seen on social media have been rescued and are safe.
The two abductees were rescued in Nigeria after a collaborative effort between the Ghana Police Service and the Nigeria Police Force.
The Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, has indicated that the feat was attained through a coordinated cross-border operation between the two security agencies.
“We’ve been able to rescue the two ladies. They are alive. They are safe. The victims were rescued in Nigeria…They are fine. They are in safe hands of the Nigerian Police Force,” she said on Accra-based Citi FM Friday, May 2, 2025.
According to Ansah-Akrofi, Ghana’s Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, following reports of the abduction constituted a task force to commence operations for the rescuing of the victims.
She said the task force included personnel from the CID, Police Intelligence, Cybercrime Unit, and other key departments.
“Throughout last week we were working on this case. The IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno constituted a special team made up of officers from the CID, the police intelligence and the cybercrime unit and other support units,” she stated.
ACP Ansah-Akrofi also lauded the National Signals Bureau’s role in helping locate the two women.
“Once intelligence confirmed they were in Nigeria, the IGP contacted his Nigerian counterpart, who responded swiftly by deploying a support team,” she stated.
The joint operation led to the arrest of three suspects in Nigeria and five in Ghana, as part of a broader investigation into the transnational kidnapping ring.
The police say investigations are ongoing and promised to provide further updates.
