In the early hours of April 18, 2025, officers from the Volta Regional Police Service made a significant interception at the Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa Police barrier.
A Hyundai bus traveling from Accra to Benin, registered GR 8246-Q and carrying passengers, was stopped and subjected to a routine search.
During the inspection, police uncovered 60 cartons of AAA cartridges (amounting to 15,000 pieces) and 72 cartons of BB cartridges (totaling 18,000 pieces). The ammunition was hidden in sacks and concealed beneath personal luggage.
The bus driver, Abasou Fousseni, aged 45, and his co-driver, Salisu Jalilu, aged 38, were arrested for interrogation. Both individuals denied any knowledge of the illicit cargo. However, further investigations revealed that it was the co-driver who was responsible for loading the ammunition onto the vehicle.
Authorities later granted the driver police enquiries bail to allow him to transport the passengers safely to their destination. Meanwhile, the co-driver remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations. He is scheduled to appear before court on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to combating transnational crime and ensuring the safety and security of the sub-region.
