The Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court presided over by his worship Ebenezer Osei Darko has sentenced two Nigerian nationals, Bright Okwara and Ferdinand Obi to 40 years imprisonment for robbing a mobile money vender in broad daylight.

The incident occurred at the Kasoa New Market Junction.

The duo were arrested May 17, 2022, by the Kasoa Divisional Police Command for robbing a mobile money vendor of some GH₵11,800 after the victim withdrew the money from a bank at Kasoa.

Detective Sergeant Addai Boamah told the court the two monitored the victim withdrawing money from a bank.

He added they chased him from the Kasoa New Market and robbed him at the market junction.

The victim chased them with his motorbike and crashed them down leading to their arrest.

Bright Okwara and Ferdinand Obi were sentenced 20 years each with hard labour by His worship Ebenezer Darko, commending Detective Sergeant Boamah for his resilience despite the challenges from the suspects lawyers.

The victim, Hassan Nuru Yaro commended the judge and the detective for their efforts in giving him justice.

He spoke with Nana Yaw Asare.

“The value was GH₵11,000.00 so I chased them with my motor. When I got to the police post at the market junction, they had been delayed by the traffic.

“They planned swerving and my motor is specked than theirs so I knocked them down and took my money and raised alarm. I was already shouting during the chase so they got surrounded within no time and the police came to arrest them.

“They hired more than five lawyers but the judge wasn’t allowing the lawyers to explain because we submitted evidence and each lawyer was asking for new witness and the judge said no and said today is the judgement and truly he ruled and gave them 20 years each,” he recalled.
