Former President John Dramani Mahama has presented the first batch of relief items to flood victims in the North, Central and South Tongu constituencies of the Volta region.

The three constituencies were mostly hit when the Volta River Authority (VRA) spilled water from the Akosombo and Kpong dams for reserving water exceeding their capacities. This got many communities along the Lower Volta Basin flooded, submerging their homes and farmlands.

A delegation of leaders and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and leadership of the Minority in Parliament Friday, October 20, 2023, met at Sogakope of
the South Tongu district to attend to persons affected by the floods in the area.

Led by the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and the Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the donation was in fulfillment of a promise made to the flood victims by former the former President when he visited the area at the onset of the floods last week.

Former President Mahama promised to work with the Minority in Parliament to provide more humanitarian support for the victims.

The team arrived with five trucks loaded with bags of rice, water, and some beverages.

The relief items donated was to help alleviate the suffering of those affected by the recent floods in the area.

The floods have caused significant damage to properties and infrastructure, leaving many people homeless and in urgent need of assistance.
