The Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has stressed the need to prioritise issues relating to women.

She has called for a year-round dialogue on issues concerning women, rather than waiting on special days dedicated to that effect.

According to her, matters bothering on the well-being of women are so numerous to be set aside for days only meant to celebrate women. She wants the dialogue to gain the headlines throughout the year.

The Professor was speaking Saturday, March 08, 2025, during the commemoration of International Women’s Day, on the theme: “Resetting the Agenda for Women: Accelerating Action on Women’s Rights, Equity, and Empowerment.”

According to the Vice President, the commemoration of the day was a call to action in the struggle for gender equality, reemphasising the incumbent administration’s commitment to ensuring every woman in Ghana attains that feat.

In a statement issued by her Press Secretary and Spokesperson, Ama Pratt, on Saturday March 08, she indicated that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang “urged all women to acknowledge the achievements made thus far while recognizing the need for sustained efforts to break barriers and create opportunities for the next generation.”

“Her Excellency reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding women’s leadership, strengthening legal protections against gender-based violence, and addressing systemic issues such as child marriage, female genital mutilation, and the high dropout rates among girls in schools,” she added.
