After rendering an apology to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Founder and leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai Odike has insisted some Asante chiefs are indulging in galamsey.

The businessman cum politician made a similar statement on Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM last month where he was banished from the land after failing to honour an invitation to Manhyia.

Oyerepa FM was subsequently reprimanded by the Kumasi Traditional for giving Mr. Odike their medium to make comments deemed the Council as unsavory to Manhyia.

Making his first appearance on a media platform after the incident, Mr. Odike told host of Maakye on Onua TV where he appeared, Captain Smart that, he duly apologises for any comments he might have made on the day which is unsavory to Otumfuo.

However, he is yet to make more noise on the menace of galamsey ongoing in the country.

Still standing by his stance that some of the chiefs are accomplices in whatever damage is being caused by galamsey, he cited Otumfuo’s statement of alleging 30% of persons who were at a gathering with him know those engaging in the illicit buttress his claims.

According to Odike, instead of subduing, galamsey activities rather shot up after Otumfuo made those pronouncements which implies a disrespect for the king.

What he said he expected Otumfuo to say was to have said he would destool any chief caught behind the act.
