President of the Republic, Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated his commitment to ridding Ghana of galamsey.

The President has assured his support for the Attorney General to prosecute the notorious Chinese galamsey queen, Aisha Huang.

Aisha Huang is a Chinese national who came to Ghana around 2008 and has openly indulged in illegal mining since 2012.

She has also, together with a cousin of hers, Helen Huang, fell and exported over six (6) million pieces of rosewood from Ghana despite a ban on it.

Madam Huang has been arrested not less 20 times since 2012 until her supposed deportation in 2018 when a Senior Minister in the Akufo-Addo government, Yaw Osafo Maafo said she can’t be prosecuted because Ghana government was securing a $2 billion from the Chinese government im exchange for Ghana’s bauxite.

Even though supposedly deported in 2018, Madam Huang was reported by her landlord and cousin for shortchanging them which got her arrested.

Many have predicted the futility of her arrest due to previous instances, especially when it has emerged that she has in her custody sex tapes of some 29 ministers, 2 former Chiefs of Staff and 28 paramount chiefs which she uses to blackmail them for her freedom whenever she is arrested.

But speaking today at the Ghana Bar Association Conference in Ho, the Volta Regional capital where he is touring, President Akufo-Addo said he will show his full “support for the Attorney General in a determination to prosecute Aisha Huang and her collaborators who apparently insist on flouting our laws against galamsey and illegal mining.

“I have said that if they are found guilty the court should apply the full rigour of the new amended Act 995 which has increased substantially the punishment for breaches of the law.”
