Even before residents of Kumasi come to terms with the fire incident at Kejetia market, another fire has razed a Kumasi-based radio station, Silver FM.

The incident, said to have occurred in the early hours of Saturday burnt two studios of the station and all the equipments in them.

From studio consoles, cameras, touchscreen televisions for analysis, computers, microphones and every single item in the studio burnt beyond repairs.

The fire, which is said to have started from an air-condition in one of the studios quickly spread to the other due to the combustible materials in the studio.

“One of our presenters told us the fire started from an air-conditioner and within a twinkle of an eye, the entire studio was engulfed by smoke. Most of the studio items were recently produced and installed to improve on our work but nothing was left beyond salvage,” Dominic Kwaku Yeboah, News Editor of Silver FM told OnuaOnline.

For now, the station has been shut down temporarily until further notice.

Management says it will wait for the Ghana National Fire Service to finish with its investigations before it resumes operation.

This is the second major fire in four days, in Kumasi.

Even before the end of the first quarter of the year, the region has recorded over 100 fire outbreaks with six fatalities and millions of Ghana cedis worth of properties destroyed.

The Ghana National Fire Service continues to advise the public to be fire safety conscious to minimize outbreaks.
