Former President John Dramani Mahama has applauded consumers of gari and beans popularly referred as ‘gɔbɛ’ in the local parlance.

During his “Building the Ghana we Want” address to the nation at the University of Professional Studies-Accra (UPSA) Thursday, October 27, 2022, Mr. Mahama said consuming locally made foods is one of the surest ways of saving the Ghana some foreign exchange to give credence to the Ghana Cedi with the major foreign currencies.

Mr. Mahama says until Ghana consumes what she produces locally, there is no way the Cedi will appreciate against the major currencies.

Advancing his speech, he noted the ingredients used to prepare gɔbɛ are not imported and that’s the surest way to save Ghana.

Mr. Mahama also applauded porridge ‘kooko’ consumers but for the sugar in the delicacy that’s imported.
