Seventeen (17) Organizations and Individuals in the tourism industry received honours at this year’s Volta Regional Tourism Awards in Ho under the theme: “Celebrating Innovation and Recognizing Excellence in Ghana Tourism Sector”.

The awards are; Best Hotel, Guest House, Restaurant, Chop Bar and Drinking spot, Tour Site and Guide Operators and Media personality as well as Digital Tourism Icon of the year.

Volta Serene, the only 5 Star Hotel in the region was adjudged the best operating Hotel of the year.

The Volta Regional Manager of Ghana Tourist Authority (GTA), Johnny Arthur-Quarm said the awards was instituted to recognize and reward outstanding performance of industry players.

According to him, it’s aimed at promoting high standards in the tourism industry of the Volta Region. The Regional Tourism Awards, Authur-Quarm noted, have evolved over the years, reflecting the growth and transformation of the region’s tourism industry.

The Regional Manager said such move by his outfit ultimately seeks to acknowledge excellence thereby contributing significantly to the growth of Volta region.

He noted that innovation in tourism should not only be about technology and modern infrastructure, but it’s also about how to share stories, preserve our heritage and how to effectively engage with visitors in a meaningful and sustainable manner.

Mr. Arthur-Quarm noted that Volta Region has made significant strides in promoting sustainable tourism, developing new attraction and enhancing visitor experience.

The Chairman of Ghana Hotels Association, Anthony Klutse Expressed dissatisfaction with the inability of people of Volta to take advantage of the numerous attractions to make money, describing the region as being the heartbeat of Ghana Tourism, saying over 280 hospitality industries are effectively in operation.

He said there are countless attractions yet to be unearthed and urged the people to explore all avenues in the industry to accelerate tourism development in the region.

In a speech read for him, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Tourism Authority, Kwasi Agyeman encouraged tourists to patronize local attraction and experience the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of the country.

The Volta Regional Minister Dr Archibald Yao Letsa in a speech read for him by the Volta Regional Director of Center for National Culture, Lydia Ampomah stressed that tourism plays a significant role in the social and economic development of not only Volta region, but Ghana at large and urged team players in the industry to be dedicated to promoting and developing tourism in the country.
