The Kintampo Divisional Police Command have arrested Five(5) persons in Kintampo for allegedly causing chaos at the district Electoral Commission’s office where the voter transfer and replacement exercise is ongoing.
The five persons include three(3) constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kintampo North, an NPP member and a woman suspected to be a native of Ampoma in neighboring Kintampo South District.
The NDC Constituency Deputy Secretary, Plasidious Takpo, the Constituency Zongo Caucus Coordinator, Nurudeen Kante and the constituency Women’s Organizer, Hajia Fati Musah, were reported to have challenged a transfer of vote by one of the suspects –the woman from Ampoma –whom they suspected was transported to the EC office by the NPP.
According to our sources, the challenge by the NDC Executives led to a physical confrontation between them and members of the NPP.
Meanwhile, sources have disclosed that the police are on a manhunt for the Kintampo North constituency Deputy Secretary of the NPP and one other executive of the party for their involvement in the incident.
Efforts by executives of both parties to secure a release for the suspects who have been in custody since 1pm Wednesday, June 05, 2024, have proven futile, as sources from the police say they are yet to get a direction from above.
At the time Kintampo Radio’s Adam Wumpuni visited the station as at 10pm Wednesday, the Kintampo North Member of Parliament, Joseph kwame Kumah, the MP for Kintampo South, Alexander Gyan, as well as the Kintampo Municipal NDC candidate, Felicia Adjei and other high-ranking executives of both parties were still present working to secure release for the suspects.
