A joint Rapid response Team from Tarkwa and Takoradi Forest District of the Forestry Commission has arrested eight (8) illegal miners, all Ghanaians.
The Team retrieved seven (7) motorcycles and three (3) tricycles during the operation in the Subri Forest Reserve in the Western Regi on.
The operation was carried out on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. All items retrieved during the operation, have, however been burnt.
The suspects have also been handed over to the Takoradi Regional Police Command for further investigations.
Meanwhile, the Regional Manager of the Forest Service Division of the Forestry Commission, Nana Poku Bosompim, has cautioned the public that anyone who enters the Forest for any illegalities, be it illegal mining, farming or logging will be brought to book.
He has also appealed to all Stakeholders, especially political heads, traditional leaders, chiefs and the media to support the Forestry Commission to fight these illegalities in the forests since the Forestry staff alone cannot fight the canker.
