25 aspirants took part in the just ended fiercely contested NDC parliamentary primaries in the Western region.

Out of the number, 5 were females while the remaining 20 were males. Surprisingly, these 5 females won in their various constituencies to the admiration of all with wider margins against their male contenders.

First on the list was Joana Gyan Cudjoe who contested the Amenfi Central seat with 4 male contenders which included the sitting MP Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah.

After the elections, Madam Cudjoe won with 750 votes whilst her closest contender who is the incumbent MP Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah polled 575 votes.

Incumbent Member of Parliament for Jomoro Dorcas Afo-Toffey who contested with a male aspirant Francis Ackatia Kwaidoo saw the incumbent Dorcas Toffey wining with a toal votes of 1,574 while her male contender polled 175 votes.

Former Deputy Western regional minister who doubled as the former DCE for Shama, Emelia Arthur, also contested with 4 male aspirants including a former MP, Gabriel Kodwo Essilfie and another former DCE, Eric Cobbinah, saw Emelia Arthur winning with 506 votes while her closest contender who was the former MP for shama Gabriel Essilfie garnered 371 votes.

Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah also battled the Essikado-Ketan slot with 2 male contenders which included Dr. Sabastian Kobby Spio-Garbrah, son of former Trade minister Dr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah won with 1043 votes while Dr. Spio-Garbrah, the closest contender had 85 votes.

Mavis Kukua Bissiw who contested in the Ahanta West constituency also won with 804 votes while the male contender Dr. Emmanuel Okumi Andoh had 699 votes.

Two of these female aspirants Joana Gyan Cudjoe and Mavis Kukua Bissiw were nearly disqualified prior to the elections following various petitions against them.

Meanwhile, surprising results from some of the constituencies in the Western region includes Sekondi which was won by lawyer Nyameke Armah Blay with 503 votes.

Takoradi constituency saw another lawyer Frederick Faustinus Faiddo wining with 558 votes. Incumbent MP for Amenfi West Eric Afful also won with 791 votes while the Effia seat was won by Majeed Dokurugu polled 456 votes.

Four aspirants who went unopposed include Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, member of Parliament for Wassa East Isaac Adjei Mensah, and MP for Prestea Huni Valley Robert Wisdom Cudjoe.  Lawyer Phillip Fiifi Buckman of Kwesimintsim also went unopposed.

Meanwhile, the Amenfi East, Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Evalue Ajomoro-Gwira and Mpohor elections have been put on hold pending some unresolved issues.
