In a vibrant display of accountability and engagement, Peter Lanchene Toobu, the Member of Parliament for Wa West Constituency in the Upper West Region, held his second “Accounting to the People” forum on Wednesday, September 30, 2025.
This initiative is part of his ongoing commitment to walk hand-in-hand with his constituents and foster open dialogue.
The forum, hosted at the District Assembly hall, brought together community members, media practitioners, and local leaders, offering a platform for pressing questions and shared insights. It was a wonderful opportunity for Peter Toobu to reconnect with the very people he serves.

Education: A Central Pillar
Addressing the crowd, Peter emphasized the critical importance of education. “Together, we have supported brilliant but needy students with school fees, provided exercise books and mock exams for BECE candidates, and secured GETFund scholarships for many,” he noted.
He also celebrated the progress on the Dorimon E-Block, which will soon be transformed into a full boarding school with additional facilities to enhance the educational experience.
Tackling Health challenges
On health issues, the MP highlighted the ongoing threat of Hepatitis B in the constituency. In response, he initiated medical screenings at all nine health centers, ensuring health staff are equipped to combat this challenge.
According to MP, he also facilitated the completion of health centers in Eggu, Gurungu, Gonbile, and Vieri, while promoting community-led health projects in various villages to improve local healthcare access.

Energizing Communities
Turning to energy and communication, Peter shared exciting news about reviving abandoned rural electrification projects. An additional 45 communities are set to be connected to the national grid, with streetlights planned to illuminate neighborhoods and enhance security.
He expressed his determination, stating, “I have personally appealed to the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology & Innovations to urgently address our district’s connectivity needs.”
Agricultural advancements
In his remarks about agriculture, Peter Toobu revealed that Wa West has been selected for a groundbreaking 1,000-hectare pilot agricultural project.
“2026 promises even greater opportunities for agriculture and agribusiness,” he declared, highlighting initiatives like “Nkoko Nkitin-kitin” that will promote local entrepreneurship in the farming sector.

Improving Infrastructure
Known for its poor road conditions, Peter assured constituents that the Nyoli-Tanina road is now part of the BIG PUSH initiative. He informed attendees that the DRIP Programme would soon be activated to repair feeder roads, with priority given to the vital Ga-Wechiau-Dorimon-Wa road.
Empowering through appointments
Peter emphasized the critical role of employment in development. Under President Mahama’s administration, Wa West has seen several key appointments, including the NHIS District Manager, District NADMO Director, and many other roles that bring government services closer to the community. The constituent’s influence is evident in various sectors, with positions in security, education, and youth employment all held by people from Wa West.
A Bit of History
Reflecting on his journey, Peter Lanchene Toobu shared that he voluntarily retired from the Ghana Police Service on May 1, 2019, to serve the people of Wa West.
In a historic political ascent, he publicly announced his candidacy on July 22, 2019, and was granted the NDC parliamentary ticket with over 70% of the votes in the primaries. On December 7, 2024, he was re-elected with the same overwhelming support, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter on January 7, 2025.
