The Barea of Madagascar went straight to the top of Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying in Africa after beating Comoros 2-1 at home on Friday.

Two goals from Rayan Raveloson, one in the very 1st minute, ensured that the Malagasy pick all the three points despite playing home away from home, in South Africa.

A late push by the hitherto group leaders resulted in a consolation through Ben El Fardou in time added on.

With the win, Madagascar lead the group with six points, though same as Comoros and Ghana, in second and third respectively.

The group gets back again to the pitch on Monday, when Ghana host Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi and Madagascar host Mali at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

Comoros will also play Chad in the remaining game in the group, but on Tuesday, June 11.
