Traders at the TESPO market in the Tema metropolis of the Greater Accra Region have expressed concern about the poor sanitation situation they have been facing over the past 10 years.

Behind the market, there’s a public toilet operated by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly with one Patapaa as the caretaker.

However, according to the traders, since the toilet was constructed faeces from the facility are let out into the gutters of the market every morning, instead of using sceptic vehicles to convey the human excreta for appropriate disposal.

The TESPO market also serves people in adjoining communities aside the Nungua and Ashaiman markets. Alot of people shop from the market, but how faeces are allowed all over the market is alarming.

When Onua News’ Akua Sarpomaa visited the market, the place looked very unhygienic. There were maggots all over in the gutters. According to the traders the maggots can be seen all over the market in the morning.

The traders lamented that they’ve reported the current state of affairs to the relevant authorities but to no avail.

Some of the traders have used woods to cover the gutters, but the stench makes them uncomfortable.
