The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has responded to calls by some Ghanaians to take action against an advert by Hajia Bintu promoting men-charming potion usually referred to as ‘Kayamata’.

A viral video on social media on May 23 show the social media influencer, Hajia Bintu promoting some products which claim to possess some spiritual charm on men.

Social media users who commented on the video called for the FDA ‘s attention demanding that the Authority take action against such advertisement.

However, in a reply to one X user, the FDA with its X account tweeted that its regulatory laws do not mandate it to look into spiritual claims.

“Per the law, the FDA is not mandated to oversee products that make spiritual claims,” the Authority tweeted on May 23.

What is Kayamata?

The term “Kayamata” refers to a range of products that are frequently advertised as having the power to improve relationships, attract partners, or increase one’s attractiveness through acclaimed spiritual means.
