Franklin Cudjoe has asked Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, to provide real solutions to the economic mess rather than promising to front the sale of mobile phones to Ghanaians on credit basis.

What the people need are jobs to empower them economically to purchase their own phones, according to the founder of IMANI Africa, but not a phone on hire purchase to be paid on installment basis.

According to him, the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was presented to Ghanaians as someone with economic adroitness to turn the economic fortunes of the state, and not someone to be giving out mobile phones to be paid in bits.

“Remember, the economy is what we know him for, not promising mobile phones on credit for jobless people. People need to have jobs and dignified income first so they can buy their own mobile phones. People do not need the state to babysit and feed them.

“Many are thinking of survival before growth. Well, if he acknowledges these things, l might put in a word for him. It is possible for him to do these,” Franklin Cudjoe said in a Facebook post Wednesday, August 07, 2024.

His comments follow an apology from the Finance Minister over the hardship the government has caused the citizens through its Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.

Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, addressing a townhall meeting in Accra Tuesday, August 6, 2024, said government needed the domestic debt exchange programme to restructure its debts to secure the IMF facility.

He therefore asked the citizenry to forgive the government for the harm it has caused them.

“We needed to restructure our debts because it was one of the requirements by the IMF. We started with the domestic debt exchange programme, the domestic exchange programme was very successful, achieving 95 per cent participation. On this note, I would like to appeal to the people of this country to forgive us,” the Minister stated.

In his Facebook post, Franklin Cudjoe asked the Vice President to follow the steps of the Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, and also apologise to Ghanaians and tell them how he is going to fix the economic mess.

He wants Dr. Bawumia to lay out the “real solutions” he has for the economic turmoil his government has put the citizens through.

“Thank you, Finance Minister. We really should have had you much earlier. When is Dr. Bawumia going to own up and do the same and then provide real believable solutions and ideas that will never ever get us into these rudderless economic storms again?
