Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, the presidential advisor on health, has revealed that government will commission some of the Agenda 111 projects in the third quarter of 2024.

He says the delays in completion is due to some challenges beyond the control of the contractors which has altered the earlier proposed date of commissioning from the second quarter of 2024, to the third quarter.

According to him, the rainy season that set in hampered the pace with which the project was running, assuring that some of them will see the light of day by end of third quarter this year since some of them are currently 90 per cent complete.

“In the third quarter of this year, we will start commissioning some of them. Not all of them because they were not started at the same time,” he told Keminni Amanor on Hot Issues Sunday, June 09, 2024, on TV3.

Speaking on the change in the date of commissioning some of the project, Dr. Nsiah-Asare noted that, a time frame is proposed when it comes to construction due to some natural factors such as the rains.

“…so, you can propose that, that is why in construction we say that this is the estimated time of finishing. Go to the site and see the work which is being done. Some of them are about 90% completed, as we speak now.

“So, we are waiting to finish the structures. We have also  started the procurement of the equipment. We’ve finished the evaluation, we’ll give to the vendors to start bringing the equipment,” he added.

About Agenda 111

The Agenda 111 initiative, inaugurated by President Akufo-Addo on August 17, 2021, aims to among other things, construct a total of 111 district hospitals throughout the country to improve access to healthcare.

Most of the facilities are targeted at improving healthcare in rural areas. The project is expected to be completed by 2025, coinciding with the end of President Akufo-Addo’s second term.

As of October 2023, the government had announced that over 89 hospitals have reached an average of 52% completion.

Meanwhile, with barely seven months to the end of the President’s term of office, not even 15 of the 111 hospitals have been fully completed.
