Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, has expressed confidence in the Mahama government’s ability to tackle the challenges inherited from the previous Akufo-Addo-led administration.

He says the hope of getting Ghana out of the woods is what motivates him since the National Democratic Congress (NDC) took over the realms of power from the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking in an exclusive interview on TV3 with Alfred Ocansey Friday, March 14, 2025, Dr. Forson stated that his hope in resolving these challenges keeps him going, despite acknowledging that the task won’t be easy.

He emphasised the importance of being disciplined and truthful with the citizenry about the state of the economy.

According to him, it is his belief that by presenting a clear picture of the economy to the citizenry, the government can align the people with its policies, noting that fixing the inherited mess is “doable” with truthfulness and discipline.

This statement comes after he presented the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, which aims to provide a blueprint for growth, stability, and opportunity for all.

The budget sets the roadmap for President Mahama’s reset agenda which seeks to turn the fortunes of the country around.

When asked by his host, what keeps him alive,  he said “hope keeps me alive. Hope keeps me going and the belief that regardless the challenges that we face, the difficulties the NPP government left behind, the NDC is capable of resolving it,” he stated.

“It won’t be easy, it won’t be simple but it is doable. It is doable with truthfulness by telling the people of Ghana the true state of the economy and being truthful with the people.

“And aside being discipline, I’m of the hope that if you mean well, amidst the challenges that we face regardless, you can fix the mess that we have inherited,” he indicated.
