Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, has intimated that the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government “provided the hope that it was meant to provide” for Ghanaians.

He says the fiscal policy presented to Parliament by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, has what it takes to cushion the government’s resetting agenda.

Speaking on the BigIssue on TV3’s NewDay Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Mr. Suhuyini noted that Budget captured what majority of Ghanaians were expecting.

According to him, the simplified nature of the document made it easier for many Ghanaians to follow keenly, and got served with their expectations as promised by the government.

Unlike the what has usually been perceived about politicians as making promises only to make their way to power and do otherwise after gaining the people’s mandate, Mr. Suhuyini says the content of the Budget has the exact expectations of the citizenry, per the social contract they signed with the Mahama-led administration.

He is confident that Ghana’s status, particularly the economy, will experience a massive turnaround at the end of the implementation of the document.

“Because it was simple to follow, many people saw some of the things that they were expecting to hear captured in the budget and that has provided the necessary hope that is required to turn the economy around –to reset the economy,” Suhuyini noted.

The Tamale North Member of Parliament also reemphasised the government’s vision of doing things differently and better in fulfillment of its resetting agenda which he indicated the budget addressed.

He explained that the Finance Minister demonstrated in his budget that he possesses the wherewithal to drive Ghana’s economy in the administration’s resetting agenda as the fulcrum of the government.

“The theme of John Mahama’s government has always been about resetting the country, our economy and the governance and doing things differently and better. In many ways, the Finance Minister came across as the man who is going to lead the reset agenda when it comes to the economy in a good way,” he stated.

Scores of Ghanaians are expecting the NDC administration to live to its reset mantra following what many have described as the shambolic performance of the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration leading to its humiliating defeat in the December 2024 elections.

The budget, as delivered by the Minister, proposes abolishing nuisance taxes introduced and retained by the last administration, subject to parliamentary approval.

The budget’s implementation is expected to bring relief to businesses and citizens through tax cuts, which many believe contributed to the economic downturn under the previous administration.
