John Dramani Mahama, the President-elect of the Republic, has expressed the need to establish a relationship between elected officials and citizens in resetting the country.
He says the power reposed in them by Ghanaians is a mandate to represent their interests and aspirations which needs to be prioritised to “salvage” Ghana.
John Mahama says his next administration is going to embark on drastic reforms that will turn the fortunes of the country around, considering how deep the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has sunk the nation in a mess.
“My brothers and sisters, there is much to do to salvage our country and reset
it. It would have to start with a reset of the relationship between citizens and
elected officials. We must never forget that the people of Ghana have chosen us to represent their wishes and best interests,” he said whilst addressing Ghanaians at his Cantonments office in Accra, after the Electoral Commission’s declaration of the results Monday, December 09, 2024.
He continued that such measures need to be taken to take Ghana back to its glory days in redeeming its position as an iconic nation on the continent.
“It is the reason we would be initiating important governance reforms and sometimes initiating severe measures in the next four years to reset our nation and bring it back on track as the black star of Africa,” he added.
John Mahama, however, admitted that resetting the country is not going to be an easy task, stating that: “The journey will not be smooth because the outgoing government has plunged our dear nation into an abyss.”
But he resolved, that, “we are determined to work together with you to build the Ghana we want. We know we shall win!”
I commend Bawumia for his statesmanship in conceding defeat – Mahama
