Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Kwesi Alfred Biney, has said the management of SSNIT is building a more people-centred social security institution.
He said they are building an institution that improves the lived experience of members in the present and in the future.
He said this during the unveiling of the Membership Value Programme (MVP), a new initiative aimed at providing contributors and pensioners with benefits beyond their statutory pensions.
Mr Biney made the point that the programme reflects the Trust’s commitment to building a more responsive and people-centred social security institution.
“We are building a more people-centred, more responsive and more forward-looking social security institution—one that protects the future, yes, but also improves the lived experience of members in the present. That is the thinking behind the MVP,” he said.
He explained that the programme is anchored in the belief that contributors who entrust SSNIT with their future financial security should also experience meaningful value during their active working years.
Speaking at the launch, Deputy Minister of Finance and Guest of Honour, Dr. Ampem Darko described the initiative as a significant step towards improving the welfare of Ghanaian workers throughout their working lives.
“Today we are not merely unveiling a new initiative but are reflecting a solemn promise that after a lifetime of hard work, every Ghanaian worker deserves security, dignity and peace of mind,” he said.
According to him, the Membership Value Programme represents a fresh and forward-looking approach to social security by ensuring contributors begin to enjoy the value of their membership before retirement.
“The Membership Value Programme recognises that the value of pension membership should not begin only at retirement but should be experienced throughout a contributor’s working life,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of Ecobank Ghana PLC, Head of Marketing and Brand, Regina Ofori, said the bank is proud to partner with SSNIT on an initiative that delivers practical value to contributors and pensioners.
“Today we are here partnering with SSNIT for the launch of the Membership Value Programme. It is a card that we are giving to pensioners and active contributors to the SSNIT scheme, and we are very excited to be able to do this with SSNIT,” she said.
She added that the partnership reflects Ecobank’s commitment to delivering impact beyond traditional banking services.
