His appointment, vetting and swearing into office to serve in government as Western Regional Minister certainly brought smiles, and genuine hope on faces of ordinary people due to one reason, his vast experience, knowledge and humility to lead.
With his unorthodox approach to leadership, he has been making waves in addressing some of the region’s most pressing challenges hitherto neglected.
Tackling Illegal Mining
One of Minister Nelson’s most notable achievements has been his crusade against illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
This suicidal menace, being carried out with careless abandon, and impunity has been wreaking havoc on the environment, polluting water bodies, destroying the forest cover and displacing local communities.
But, with his combating team tactfully working without inducement, Minister Nelson, as Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has so far demonstrated that indeed he is a Glasgow trained economist, ready to leave an indelible, incredible and traceable mark of excellent performance in history
He has been working tirelessly to identify and clamp down on illegal mining operations despite all the temptations that come with the fight of the most dangerous battle in recent history of the country, therefore, placing him on top of all forms of threats and yet bringing hope to the people of the Western Region.
Resolving Chieftaincy Disputes
Chieftaincy disputes have been a longstanding issue in Ghana, often leading to violence and instability. The Western Region has not been spared in this national chieftaincy crisis.
Minister Nelson, who recognised this as an albatross hanging on the Region and faced by successive governments has been instrumental in brokering peace between warring factions, using his diplomatic skills, humility as efficacious weapons to bring the people together and find lasting solutions to these disputes drawing back the Region.
This includes the previously five-year divided Western Regional House of Chiefs he inherited.
His efforts at silently resolving matters without beating drums to announce them have helped to promote peace and stability in the region, creating an environment conducive for takeoff of business and development.

Minister Nelson’s commitment to peace and stability is evident in his work and at variant with the ideals of most political leaders who beat war drums, blow their own horns and appear very far from the people while in office.
He has been engaging with various stakeholders, and therefore remain most approachable, reachable and down to earth leader of the region in recent memory.
His outreach programme including retreat with key stakeholders such as traditional leaders, community members, and security agencies, has ensured that the region remains peaceful and stable.
His leadership has helped to build trust and confidence among the people, who are now more willing to work together to achieve the common potential goals of the Region.
Creating Jobs And Prioritizing Mining and Agriculture
One of Minister Nelson’s most ambitious initiatives has been his focus on job creation through mining and agriculture.
Recognizing the region’s vast agricultural potential, mining and mineral resources, he has been working to promote decent mining to investors devoid of all forms of illegal mining activities and pushing agribusiness to the front burner, with an anticipated revival of the poultry industry while providing support to farmers through new initiatives being rolled out by government in anticipation of multiplying the creation of jobs for the youth.
His efforts have started to bear fruits, with many young people hitherto hopeless beginning to find space in the form of self-employment in the agricultural sector and promising to contribute to the region’s socioeconomic growth.
