The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has clarified that the Volta Regional Council of State member Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, and the directors of Sesi-Edem Company Ltd were not declared wanted persons.
In an affidavit in opposition filed by EOCO in response to an application for interlocutory injunction by lawyers of Mr Kwamigah-Atokple, the investigative body intimated that no formal “wanted” notice has ever been issued or published against the applicant or its directors on its official website, where the agency ordinarily publishes persons officially declared wanted.
According to EOCO, the only public statement referenced by the applicants was a general press release dated 30th March 2026, which was issued before the ex parte interim injunction was granted.
EOCO stated that the said release did not amount to a formal wanted declaration but rather constituted a response to media discussions surrounding the matter.
The anti-graft agency further stated that the continued online visibility of that earlier press release cannot be interpreted as a fresh declaration or a maintenance of any wanted status against the Council of State member, Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple or the directors of Sesi-Edem Company Limited.
“That no formal wanted notice has ever been issued or published by the Respondent against the Applicant or its directors in the dedicated WANTED PERSONS section of the ECOC website, where it published persons officially declared wanted by the Respondent.
“The only public statement was the general press release dated 30th March 2026, which was issued before the ex parte interim injunction, and which did not constitute a formal wanted declaration but a response to certain media discussions on the matter. The continued visibility of this pre-existing press release does not amount to a fresh declaration or maintenance of the Applicant as wanted, as the Applicant has never been declared wanted officially by the Respondent,” paragraph 19 of the Affidavit in opposition reads.
The Volta Regional Council of State Member Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, and the directors of Sesi-Edem Company Limited are being investigated by EOCO over alleged defrauding by false pretences committed against a petitioner J.G. Resources Ltd over a gold supply deal.
