A member of the Council of the State and Paramount Chief of the Wiawso traditional area, Nana Kwasi Bumangama II, is displeased with the lack of infrastructure befitting the status of a regional capital after the creation of the Western North region.

During a courtesy call on the Wiawsomanhene by NDC flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama, he said after the creation of the new region, it is yet to attract the necessary improvement in infrastructure.

“The President has given us a region but we are not there yet. We are asking him to improve the status for us so we can match up to the Ashanti Region and others,” he intimated.

The NPP administration shortly after coming into office created six new regions in line with decentralisation to improve development.

At a town hall meeting at Wiawso, to have suggestions of the residents imputed into the NDC’s People’s Manifesto, participants at the event called for improved infrastructure.

The Paramount Chief went head to solicit for their previous authority to be restored in order to contribute to national development.

He said if John Mahama, is able to, through the 1992 Constitution give them back their power, the entire National House of Chiefs would give him their support.

“I am glad you have visited me in my palace. Let me make this point that politicians have taken the powers of the chiefs, who are now powerless to the extent that people I summon to appear before me threaten to take me to court, but this was not the case in the past.

“If [Mr Mahama] wants to come back then he should give us that power again and we will all support him.”

On his part, the NDC flag bearer reiterated the need for improved infrastructure in all regions by assuring the residents of a deliberate charge towards development in the six newly created regions.

“Under Former President John Evans Atta Mills, we targeted the construction of a public university in every region. We either upgraded some public institutions to the university level or started new ones. All regions were to have Regional Hospitals to serve as referral points,” he added.
